Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4s / A5 devices released!

Two days ago the jailbreak for the A5 devices such as the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 was released.  I had the pleasure of today testing out “Absinthe” the jailbreak utility on my Sprint iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405).  Absinthe , which by the way is for Mac only at the moment, was however able to be run on our test workstation running Mac OS X Lion via VMware Workstation.

Installation was easy! A simple download of Absinthe (links below) and plug in the iPhone and click “Jailbreak”.  A few minutes later it asked me to unlock the screen on the iPhone and click on the Absinthe app to finish the jailbreak. Another couple minutes later and SUCCESS!!

As you can see from the screen shot, Cydia is installed successfully everything appears stable.

A lot of hard work went into pulling off this untethered jailbreak as well as putting together Absinthe and the Windows Command Line Utility.  Many thanks to all involved in these projects.

More information and tutorials can be found on pod2g’s blog you can also follow him on twitter: @pod2g , or follow us @RWSDev to stay up to date on these and other technology issues and solutions.

You can find Absinthe here!

*** UPDATE *** as I was attaching the link here for Absinthe it now appears there is a windows version out as well.  We have not tested the windows version so cannot comment on the functionality but if it’s put together by the same team you can place your money on it being a success!
